Almost alive, they rose
Heavy and high, dripping
Salt from coarse locks, shaggy
Wet, shining sleek, green and
Brown glittering face to the sea.
Daring the storm they strove,
Shouldered the tide, clipping
Thunder from billows which
Fought, by their climbing, to
Drag them back under the sea.
